Overview
What is Fertility assessment?
A fertility assessment gives both partners a clear picture of where you are starting from. Instead of guessing, you get answers from hormone tests, an ultrasound, semen analysis and a detailed medical history.
Your results are explained in plain language at a follow-up visit, together with the options that make sense for you. Many couples find the assessment itself brings real relief, because it replaces uncertainty with a plan.
Benefits
- Assessment for both partners, not one
- Ovarian reserve, ovulation and the uterus checked
- Semen analysis where relevant
- A clear explanation of every result
- A written plan with realistic next steps
Is it right for you?
Often a good fit for
- You have been trying to conceive for a year, or six months if you are over 35
- Your cycles are irregular, or you have PCOS or endometriosis
- You have had previous miscarriages
- You want to understand your fertility before planning ahead
We may advise waiting, or another option, with
- There is no wrong time to ask. Some tests are timed to your cycle, and we will tell you when
Suitability is always confirmed in person, at your consultation.
How it works
01
Consultation
A private conversation about your history, cycles, previous tests and goals, with both partners where possible.
02
Tests
Blood tests for hormones, a pelvic ultrasound and semen analysis, some timed to particular days of your cycle.
03
Results visit
Every result explained, with what it means for your chances and your choices.
04
Your plan
Options set out side by side, from lifestyle advice and ovulation support to IUI or IVF.
Before and after
Before your visit
- Bring any previous reports, scans and prescriptions
- Note the first day of your last period
- For semen analysis, follow the abstinence advice we give you
Aftercare
- Book your results visit before you leave
- Continue any medicines unless we advise otherwise
- Message us with any questions while you wait
Possible side effects
- Blood tests and ultrasound carry very little risk. An internal pelvic scan can feel uncomfortable, and we explain each step first
Every risk is explained before you decide. Results vary from person to person.
Fertility assessment: your questions
Do both partners need to come?
Ideally, yes. Around a third of fertility difficulties involve the male partner, so testing both of you saves time.
Which day of my cycle should I come?
Some hormone tests are best on day 2 – 5 of your cycle. Book the consultation at any time, and we will time the tests.
Is the assessment confidential?
Completely. Your history and results are shared only with you.
